From time to time Ngā Tāngata Tiaki will undertake projects to achieve the aspirations of our iwi to maintain the health and wellbeing of Te Awa Tupua and its people.
Mouri Tūroa is one of those projects. Mouri Tūroa is a jobs for nature approach guided by Tupua te Kawa, the intrinsic values of te Awa Tūpua. The approach aims to improve the health and wellbeing of Te Awa Tupua by restoring the riparian margins of ngā manga iti, ngā manga nui o Te Awa Tupua.
Ngā Tāngata Tiaki o Whanganui signed a four year contract with the Department of Conservation in September 2021 and established Mouri Tūroa. Our approach has been to use the existing businesses in fencing, planting and pest control to work on lands in Te Awa Tupua that require restoration.
